CLARION, Pa. - The Gannon University women's soccer team won at Clarion Tuesday night, beating the Golden Eagles 2-0. Freshman Amanda Sharbaugh (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) scored a goal and sophomore Sabrina Chirco (Brampton, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) recorded a shutout to lead the Lady Knights.
Sharbaugh put GU up early, scoring in the sixth minute on an assist from Chantelle Both (Brampton, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas). Gannon (3-0, 3-0 PSAC) controlled the match from there, putting 13 shots on net to just three for Clarion (1-3-1, 0-2-1 PSAC).
The win gives the Lady Knights' their best start in program history. Gannon has played women's soccer since 1987.
Senior forward Katy Lynn (Brampton, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) scored in the 41st minute to give GU insurance. The goal was Lynn's second of the season.
Chirco made three saves for her second shutout of the year. She has allowed just one goal in three matches this season.
The Lady Knights will host Slippery Rock Saturday, September 13. The 1 p.m. match will be at Gannon University Field.
