The Gannon University women's water polo team is set to host three Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) matches at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion natatorium this weekend after a three-week break between competitions.
The Lady Knights (6-9, 1-1) open their all-conference weekend against NCAA Division I Indiana University at 7 p.m. Friday, April 5. The Hoosiers are tied for 17th nationally and hold the fourth spot in the latest CWPA top 10 poll.
Indiana (11-13, 0-1) holds an 11-0 advantage in the all-time series. But Gannon nearly upset the Hoosiers last year, falling 9-7.
Seven of the 15 members of Indiana's water polo team are freshmen.
Senior Brooke Zimmerman leads the Hoosiers offense with 54 goals.
Gannon sophomore Annie Greenhill (Brea, Calif./Brea Olinda) has posted a team-leading 43 goals this season. Greenhill is fifth all-time at Gannon with 94 career goals, just 14 shy of fourth (108) and 16 away from third (110).
The Lady Knights will face two local teams Saturday.
Gannon starts the day against Penn State Behrend (1-13, 0-5) at 2:30 p.m. The Lady Knights have found victory in each of the teams' 13 matches.
Gannon squares off against rival Mercyhurst College at 7 p.m.
The Lady Knights lead the all-time series 14-2.
Mercyhurst is off to its best start in school history at 9-4 overall. The Lakers are 2-1 in conference play.
Freshman Rachel Griepsma leads Mercyhurst with 51 goals, posting 23 in her last four matches.
