Gannon's Wright Becomes Winningest Women's Basketball Coach in School History

Gannon head coach Cleve Wright is now the school's all-time leader in women's basketball coaching victories.
ERIE, Pa. - Gannon head women's basketball coach Cleve Wright made school history Sunday afternoon when he picked up his 106th career coaching victory, becoming the school's winningest women's basketball coach.

Wright tied Jodi Kest's (1996-02) school record (105) Saturday afternoon with an 81-69 victory over Concord during the opening day of the Lady Lion Classic. The seventh-year head coach assumed sole possession of the record with a 71-65 victory over Fairmont State Sunday afternoon during the final day of the classic. The Fighting Falcons were picked No. 1 in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) Preseason Coaches Poll.

Wright owns a 106-69 career record at Gannon. His .606 winning percentage ranks third in school history behind Judy Saurer (88-47, .652) and Lea Austin (64-40, .615). He is the sixth head basketball coach, regardless of gender, to reach the 100-victory plateau at Gannon. Jerry Slocum (179-78), Bob Dukiet (135-63), Tom Chapman (120-38), and Dick Fox (100-58) accomplished the feat on the men's side.

Gannon (2-0) returns to action Saturday, November 22 against West Virginia Wesleyan at the Hammermill Center. The home opener is scheduled for 1 p.m.
