ATHENS, W.Va. -
Kristina Freeman's (Yonkers, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) 20-point performance and 46 bench points led the Gannon women's basketball team to an 83-69 victory over host Concord (W.Va.) Saturday afternoon during the opening day of the Lady Lion Classic.
Freeman scored 17 of her 20 points during the first half, helping Gannon assume a 41-29 halftime lead. The junior guard single-handedly produced an 11-0 run midway through the half, bumping Gannon's one-point lead to a 27-15 advantage. She hit three consecutive three-pointers during the stretch.
Gannon's lead extended to 15 points at 36-21, before the Lady Knights went to halftime with a 12-point edge.
Six different Lady Knights scored during a 16-6 run to begin the second half as Gannon opened a commanding 57-35 lead. The host Lady Lions never got closer than 14 points the rest of the way.
Freeman led Gannon's offensive unit with 20 points. The squad's next three scorers came off the bench.
Kim Vargas (Sterling, Va./Broad Run) led the bench players with 16 points.
Julie Kleber (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) and
Amanda Dacek (Middleburg Heights, Ohio/Berea) added 13 and 10 points, respectively.
