ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon University men's and women's swimming and diving teams beat NCAA Division I Canisius College Saturday afternoon. The men won 139-121 and the women won 181-117.
The Golden Knights were led by
Josh Marzilli (Riverview, Fla./East Bay), who took gold in the 200 yard freestyle and the 500 freestyle. The 200 freestyle relay team won, swimming a 1:27.98 in the process. Other winners on the men's side included
Seth Hazlett (Leechburg, Pa./Kiski Area) in the 200 butterfly,
John Krakowski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) in the 50 freestyle,
Richie DiLoreto (Erie, Pa./McDowell) in the 100 freestyle, and
Greg Evanoff (McKean, Pa./General McLane), who won the 1000 yard freestyle.
For the Lady Knights, diver
Megan Beresford (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) stole the show, setting pool records in both the one and three meter dives. In the one-meter, Beresford scored a 239.60 and in the three-meter, she totaled a 253.50 to take the gold. The 200 freestyle relay team and the 400 medley relay both touched the wall first.
Ashlee Calandra (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) won the 1000 and 500 freestyle events and
Ellie Hess (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) took first in the 100 and 200 freestyle races.
Lauren Myrick (Erie, Pa./McDowell) won the 200 butterfly and
Kaitlyn Bosy (Courtice, Ontario/Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary) took gold in the 50 freestyle race.
Gannon will next travel to California (Pa.) Saturday, November 8 at 1 p.m.
