Gannon Women's Soccer Hosts Mercyhurst in Crucial Match

Katy Lynn is one of six Gannon seniors to be honored before Tuesday's match against Mercyhurst.
ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon University women's soccer team will face rival Mercyhurst in their final regular season home match Tuesday, October 28, at Gannon University Field. The contest will begin at 7 p.m.

Due to multiple home events at GU, live stats will not available for the match.

The Lady Knights (10-5-1, 8-3-1) are in second place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Division with 25 points. Mercyhurst (10-4-3, 8-2-3) has 27 points, good enough to lead the division. GU is eighth in the NCAA Division II Atlantic regional rankings as of October 22. MC is ninth. The top six teams from each region advance to the NCAA playoffs.

The teams played to a 2-2 draw on September 23 in their first match. That contest saw Sarah Powell score twice in the final three minutes of regulation to give her team the lead. Gannon forward Amanda Sharbaugh (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) tied the match with five seconds remaining to send it to overtime. Powell has scored 15 goals in 2008, while Sharbaugh has 14 on the season.

Six Gannon seniors will play in what could be their final home match. However, the Lady Knights could still host a postseason contest, depending on outcomes during the final week of the regular season.
