Milanak recorded the best finish by a Gannon wrestler at the Cleveland State Open last weekend after finishing 4-1 and earning a second-place finish in the 141-pound class. The event featured over 250 wrestlers from 27 schools. All four of Milanak’s wins came over Division I wrestlers. He opened the day with a 19-3 technical fall win over Cody O’Keefe of Oakland. He then earned a 4-1 decision over Tyler Green and a 4-3 decision over Josh Palivoda, both of Cleveland State. He then took on Central Michigan’s Ben Mathiesen, earning another 4-3 decision. He fell in the championship match to Northwestern’s Colin Shober by a 5-1 score to finish second. Milanak finished as one of only two non-Division I wrestlers to make it to the championship bout.
