Downey is expected to compete for playing time as an infielder and outfielder in 2014 … can play first base, second base, third base or right field … has the ability to also log innings on the mound.

2013: Played in five games, starting three … saw seven official plate appearances … drew a walk in three consecutive appearances against Clarion, Indiana (Pa.) and Canisius … didn’t commit an error in 24 fielding opportunities.

2012: Saw action in 15 games, starting nine … named a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Scholar-Athlete ... received the Division II Athletics Directors Association (ADA) Academic Achievement Award … started four games at first base, four games at third base and one game at second base … committed only one error in 39 fielding chances, producing a .974 fielding percentage … hit a triple and scored a run during a 4-3 victory against Clarion … added a second hit during a 5-4 win against Alderson-Broaddus.

2011: Played in 30 games, all starts … started 15 games at third base, 13 at second base, one in right field and one as the designated hitter … was a PSAC Scholar-Athlete … received the Division II ADA Academic Achievement Award … led the team in on-base percentage (.455) … finished second on the team in batting average (.303) and slugging percentage (.395) … hit .458 (11-24) against left-handers and .316 (12-38) with the bases empty … reached base 45 percent (9-20) of the time when leading off an inning … drove home a run three times in five at-bats with a runner on third base and less than two outs … recorded four multiple-hit games … produced the third-highest single-season on-base percentage in school history … was hit by a pitch 11 times, equaling the fourth-highest single-season total in school history … ranked 24th among all NCAA Division II players in hit by pitch per game (0.37) … began his collegiate career by recording a hit in five of his seven appearances during Gannon’s Spring Trip … hit .345 (10-29) during his first 10 collegiate games … ended the season with a season-best five-game hitting streak … hit .700 (7-10) during the last five games of the season … went 2-for-2 with two RBIs during a 6-3 victory against Clarion … finished 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI during a 6-3 win against California (Pa.) … added multiple-hit games against Lewis (Ill.) (2-for-3) and Mercyhurst (2-for-3).

2010: Redshirted … was a PSAC Scholar-Athlete.

High School: Played for head coach Matt Basciano at Greater Latrobe (Pa.) High School … named to the all-section second team as a senior second baseman … led Greater Latrobe to back-to-back WPIAL Quad-A runner-up finishes … was a member of the Distinguished Honor Roll … named Math Student of the Month … participated in the Breakfast of Champions.
