Baseball Honored with ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Gannon baseball team has been recognized for its outstanding performance in the classroom, earning the 2025-26 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award, presented by Sports Attack.

The 2025-26 ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award, presented by Sports Attack, recognizes ABCA member high school and collegiate baseball programs that posted a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale during the 2025-26 academic year.

More than 800 programs nationwide earned the honor this year, including nearly 500 collegiate teams and more than 320 high school programs.

The Golden Knights continued their tradition of academic success by posting a 3.469 team GPA during the fall semester before improving to a 3.535 GPA in the spring, easily surpassing the 3.0 GPA requirement to earn the national honor.

"I am incredibly proud of our team for earning the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award," said head coach DJ Cannon. Winning on the field is always the goal, but true championships are built by executing standard-setting work in the classroom first. This honor reflects the discipline, maturity, and dedication of our student-athletes, and it proves they understand what it truly means to be a champion in every facet of life."

The Golden Knights were one of six PSAC baseball programs recognized with the award, joining California (Pa.), East Stroudsburg, Seton Hill, Slippery Rock, and West Chester.

To qualify for the award, programs were required to:
  • Post a cumulative team GPA of at least 3.0 during the 2025-26 academic year.
  • Be led by a head coach who is a current ABCA member.
  • Be nominated following the conclusion of the spring semester.
The American Baseball Coaches Association has recognized the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes for decades through a variety of national awards, including the prestigious ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams, the nation's oldest collegiate baseball All-America program, established in 1949.
