BOULDER CITY, NV - Gannon  battled through a challenging course at the first day of the 2026 NCAA DII men's golf National Championships in Boulder Creek, NV. The Golden Knights, despite sitting in 18th place, are just seven over par and sit just eight shots back of the final team spot for quarterfinal play. 36 holes remain in the stroke play tournament. 

Rasmus Seppanen (Bastad, Sweden/Akademi Bastad Gymnasium) leads the Golden Knights on the scorecard, shooting a one-under 71 on Monday. Seppanen would card pars on the first 14 holes before back to back birdies on the 15th and 16th. He is tied for 26th entering play on Tuesday. 

The Golden Knights showcased particularly strong play on the back nine holes and put themselves within striking distance of the top eight. Eight of the 20 competing teams recorded rounds under par. 

The Golden Knights will be up bright and early on Tuesday for the second round of the regional. They'll have the second set of tee times, starting at 11:25 Eastern, 8:25 local (PT). 

THE KNIGHTCAP - GANNON RESULTS

Rasmus Seppanen (Bastad, Sweden/Akademi Bastad Gymnasium) (Bastad, Sweden/Akademi Bastad Gymnasium) (T26 / -1)
One might call it "boring golf", but for Rasmus Seppanen (Bastad, Sweden/Akademi Bastad Gymnasium), it was consistent golf. Fresh off a runner-up finish at the regional, Seppanen would card a one-under 71 to produce Gannon's lone under par round of they day. He would score par on the first 14 holes of the tournament but then find back to back birdies on the par four 15th and long, 635 yard par five 16th. A bogey on 18 ended his day, bu Seppanen is just outside the top 25 entering day two. 

Mario Estevez (Gijón, Spain/Colegio Montedeva de Gijón) (T62 / +2)
Estevez topped his opening drive of the day and triple bogeyed the first hole. That alone would be enough of an excuse to rattle a freshman making his first NCAA Championship start. It did not rattle Estevez. Following his tough start, the first year player would shoot one under the rest of the day and post the teams second best score of 74 (+2). Estevez immediately responded with a birdie on the par five second hole and had another on the par four sixth. He would card two more birdies on the back nine, including the 15th and 18th holes to shoot an even 36 on the back and 74 for the round. He is tied for 62nd after the first day. 


Giovanni Delorenzi (Reggio Emilia, Italy/International School of Modena) (T75 / +3)
Also marked by resilience, Delorenzi birdied the par five second hole and finished the front nine at three-over 39. But, battling and using his experience at this level, the senior hit a great approach on the par five 13th and carded his second birdie of the day. He made par on four out of the last five holes, one of the toughest stretches on the course, to end with a 75 and looking to maintain momentum heading into Tuesday's round. 

Mattia Parrini (Verolengo, Italy/Verolengo)  (T75 / +3)
Parrini started off the day with arguably the shot of the day for the Golden Knights, when he made a lengthy birdie putt on the first hole, a putt that sped downhill and broke twice en route. Parrini made another birdie at the sixth hole to finish the front nine just one over par. He would shoot a 38 on the back, with seven pars, to stay level with Delorenzi at three over for the round. 

Jacob Wolak (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock Area) (T101 / +8)
Wolak would birdie the second hole, a par five, and card another birdie at the seventh. Following a 40 on the front nine, he found a red number on the par five 13th to finish with an 80 at eight over par.
