Next Game: vs Findlay (Sunday, 3/8 - 12/2:30 pm DH)
TIFFIN, OH - After a solid first two weeks from the pitching core, Gannon struggled to keep Findlay off the scoreboard on Friday, dropping both games of a twinbill to the Oilers in Tiffin, OH.
Game one saw the Oilers take control early, putting up 14 runs in the first three innings. GU would get on the board in the fourth on a Matt Smith (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) RBI double. Ganno would score three more times in the seventh in the loss.
Game two was a back and forth affair. The Oilers would take a 3-0 lead after the first, but the Golden Knights fought back with runs in the second, third, and fourth to take a 4-3 lead. From there, Findlay took control, regaining the lead in the fifth and holding the advantage from there.
The Golden Knights will look for the split Sunday afternoon in another doubleheader against the Oilers.
THE KNIGHT CAP - GAME 1
- Crooked Seventh - Gannon would score three in the final frame for the lone crooked number of game one. Brady Smith (Fulham, Australia/Seaton) would single up the middle to score Frank Kula (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) and Brady Gavula (Butler, Pa./Butler Area) scampered home shortly after when Chris Mullins (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) reached on a fielders choice.
- Smith Finds the Gap - Matt Smith (Duncansville, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) would drive home the first Gannon tally of the day when he found the gap in right field for an RBI double. It was his first two-bagger and fifth RBI of the season.
- On the Bump - Ryan Hood (Latrobe, Pa./Derry Area) (1-1) suffered his first loss of the season, tossing two innings and allowing 10 earned runs. Dylan Paul (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) and Jackson Walsh (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) each collected two frames of relief.
THE KNIGHT CAP - GAME 2
- Battling Back- After allowing the first three runs of the game, Gannon mounted a middle frame comeback. Smith earned another RBI in the second, and Tommy Koroly (Mars, Pa./North Catholic) would cut the deficit to 3-2 on a passed ball in the third. GU would take its first lead of the afternoon in the fourth when Smith launched a two-run homer to right, his first of the 2026 campaign.
- Twice is Nice - In a superb day for Smith, the righty collected a pair of hits in the loss, as did Dom Costello (North Olmsted, Ohio/North Olmsted) (2-3).
