INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA today released its third set of Division II women's basketball rankings and second that ranks the teams. There is a new team at the top of the Atlantic Region poll as No. 5 Gannon now holds down the number one spot.
The Golden Knights leapfrogged Indiana (Pa.) after posting a 71-62 win at IUP on Saturday. Gannon improved to 26-3 with the victory and now hosts Bloomsburg in a PSAC Quarterfinal on Wednesday night. Gannon is the two-time defending Atlantic Regional champion. Long-time head coach Cleve Wright has guided Gannon to a fifth straight year with 20-or-more wins and eighth in the last nine years.
Indiana (Pa.) dropped to second in the Atlantic Region poll. The Crimson Hawks have a 22-3 record. (NOTE: the records noted are per NCAA vs. Div. II competition).
Winston-Salem State holds down the third spot in the poll with Seton Hill, the third PSAC West team in the top four, ranked fourth. Fayetteville State, like Winston-Salem a member of the CIAA, rounds out the top five.
Three members of the Mountain East Conference are next in the regional rankings, with Glenville State sixth, Fairmont State seventh, and Concord eighth. Edinboro and West Virginia Wesleyan complete the ten-team regional rankings.
The three conferences in the region are currently holding their respective conference tournaments, with the three champions earning automatic bids to the 2026 NCAA Division II Tournament. The 64-team field will be announced late Sunday, March 8.
