INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA today released its initial set of Division II women's basketball regional rankings. The first week's rankings are only in alphabetical order. The NCAA will announce its first poll ranking the teams on Wednesday, February 21.
Gannon is among the ten teams appearing in the initial NCAA Atlantic Region poll. The Golden Knights are not only looking for a sixth straight appearance in the Atlantic Regional but also have captured the regional championship and reached the Elite Eight the last two years.
Long-time head coach
Cleve Wright has guided Gannon to a 22-3 record marking a fifth straight year with 20-or-more wins and eighth in the last nine years. The Golden Knights host Slippery Rock on Wednesday.
In addition to Gannon, the PSAC is represented in the Atlantic Region poll by Edinboro, Indiana (Pa.), and Seton Hill. The Mountain East Conference places four teams in the rankings, Charleston (W.Va.), Concord, Fairmont State, and Glenville State, while Fayetteville State and Winston-Salem State represent the CIAA and complete the regional field.
The NCAA will announce the 64-team field for the NCAA Division II Tournament on Sunday, March 8.
