The Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) announced Wednesday afternoon that Gannon sophomore utility Victor Volant (Fuveau, France/) has been selected as the league's Offensive Player of the Week. Volant earned the recognition after delivering a standout showing at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational.
Volant fueled the Golden Knights' attack with back-to-back wins over Washington & Jefferson and Penn State Behrend before nearly leading Gannon to an upset of Johns Hopkins, which entered the weekend ranked No. 9 in the Division III polls.
He totaled 16 goals and eight assists for 24 points, finishing with an impressive .760 shooting percentage (16-for-21) across the three contests.
The sophomore opened with six goals, four assists and seven steals in a 22–9 victory over W&J, then followed with six more goals and three assists as Gannon outlasted Behrend, 24–19.
Volant capped the weekend with four goals and an assist against nationally-ranked Hopkins, spearheading a furious offensive effort in a 20–19 setback.
Through seven games this season, Volant leads the Golden Knights with 21 goals and 16 assists (37 points), while shooting .618 overall.
