ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon men's water polo team opened the 2025 campaign with a pair of matches in the Bruno Classic on Saturday. The Golden Knights dropped a 20-10 decision to 17th-ranked Brown, the host team, before suffering a narrow 14-12 setback to Iona in its second contest.

THE KNIGHT CAP
No. 17 Brown 20, Gannon 10: The Golden Knights fell behind early and were never able to catch up, although they trailed by just three goals at the half, 9-6. The Bears pulled away with six goals in the third quarter.

Rajmund Farsung and Alexandros Kotskar (Voula, Greece/Athinaiki Agogh) led Gannon with three goals apiece. Petar Markovic (Belgrade, Serbia/) added a pair of goals while Nikiforos Liantziris (Athens, Greece/) and Victor Volant (Fuveau, France/) scored one goal apiece.

Iona 14, Gannon 12: The two teams battled in a tight match with neither team leading by more than two goals until midway through the third quarter. That's when the Gaels scored three of four goals to boost their lead to 11-7.

The Golden Knights would not be outdone despite facing their largest deficit of the day at 13-8 less than a minute into the final period. Gannon ran off four straight goals to pull with one score at 13-12 with 3:16 remaining. Petar Markovic (Belgrade, Serbia/) started the rally with a goal and Rajmund Farsang (Eger, Hungary/) followed with a pair of goals. When Alexandros Kotskar (Voula, Greece/Athinaiki Agogh) scored with 3:16 remaining the Golden Knights were within a goal.

Unfortunately that was the last goal for Gannon and a minute later Iona scored an insurance goal to make it 14-12.
Markovic led Gannon with four goals while Farsang chipped in with three. Kotskar and Shaw scored two goals apiece, with Kotskar boosting his career total to 226 goals.
