ERIE, PA – Following a tough ending to their conference slate for the weekend, Gannon responded in kind with a 14-8 victory over Penn State Behrend in their penultimate game of the WWPA Erie Classic. GU improves to 7-12 on the season, and breaks a three game skid.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-GU notched the opening two goals of the game.
Jade Strickland (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) capitalized on a power play opportunity, and
Claire Rogillio (Austin, Texas/Anderson) found the net just 30 seconds later to make it 2-0.
Jillian Heinrich (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) would give Gannon the lead back at 3-2 late in the first after PSB had tied the game with consecutive goals.
-Back on the power play in the second,
Molly Fehr (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria) tallied her first of the morning for GU's second tally a player up. Gannon would get two even strength goals in the span of 41 seconds, when Strickland scored her second of the half, and
Brigid Carmody (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) made it 5-3 shortly after. GU led 6-4 at the break.
-The Golden Knights doubled up PSB in the third. Carmody & Fehr each added to their goal total for the game, while
Ellie Velasco (Bronx, Calif./Arlington) &
Claudia Orte Blanch (Madrid, Spain/IES Profesor Maximo Trueba) tickled the twine to put GU up 10-6 heading into the fourth. Gannon would keep the lead throughout the entire fourth period to secure the win.

Molly Sebunia (Erie, Pa./McDowell) played the first half in goal, allowing four goals.
Izabella Trunzo (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) came on in the second half, surrendering four goals and making six stops.

Gannon will conclude the WWPA Erie Classic this afternoon when they face Washington & Jefferson at 2:00 pm. The game will include Senior Day festivities.
