Golden Knights Celebrate Senior Day To Conclude Erie Classic

ERIE, PA - In their final home game of the regular season, Gannon celebrated four seniors before their game against Washington & Jefferson. Molly Sebunia (Erie, Pa./McDowell), Jade StricklandEllie Velasco, & Claire Rogillio were all recognized ahead of the finale of the WWPA Erie Classic, which the Golden Knights fell, 17-16.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Gannon started with an early 2-1 lead when Emma O'Gorman (Johannesburg, South Africa/St Stithians College) & Strickland scored between a W&J goal. Ana Carrera (Orlando, Fla./Lake Nona) would tie the game 3-3 after a pair of tallies from the visitors, and Strickland's second of the period ensured a 4-4 game heading into the second.

-W&J would net the first four goals of the second, before Velasco found the back of the cage. GU would cut the deficit to three before the break with goals from Brigid Carmody (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn)Delaney Chrysle (Banning, Calif./Beaumont), & Kerstyn Farley (Orlando, Fla./Lake Nona). The Golden Knights trailed 11-8 at the break but had seven different goal scorers in the opening 16 minutes.

-Things would continue to tighten in the third. GU put up the final three goals of the period when Strickland scored twice more (one on a penalty shot) and O'Gorman notched her second of the game. W&J led 12-11 after three.

-The fourth quarter proved to be a seesaw battle. Gannon battled back to take the lead with 2:38 left when Strickland scored her fifth of the afternoon. After W&J scored twice to retake the lead, Brigid Carmody (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) made an incredible shot count, tying the game 16-16 with 12 seconds to go. But six seconds later, W&J would find the net to seal the victory, 17-16.

- Molly Sebunia (Erie, Pa./McDowell) played the first half in the crease, surrendering 11 goals and making two saves. Izabella Trunzo started the second half in goal, allowing six goals and making six saves.
