Gannon Completes Perfect Weekend at Washington & Jefferson Invitational

The Gannon University women's water polo team wrapped up the Washington & Jefferson Invitational with a flawless 2-0 record, securing victories over Washington & Jefferson and Virginia Military Institute (VMI) on Saturday at Henry Memorial Natatorium.

Second half surge lifts Golden Knights over Presidents

Gannon pulled away in the second half to defeat Washington & Jefferson 16-12. After a closely contested first half, Gannon outscored W&J 12-6 in the second half to secure the victory.

Brigid Carmody (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) spearheaded Gannon's offense with six goals, while Jade Strickland (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) added two goals and four assists. Emma Velasco had a strong all-around performance, contributing two goals and three assists. Molly Fehr (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria) also scored two goals. On the defensive side, Molly Sebunia (Erie, Pa./McDowell) recorded two saves in 16 minutes of play, while Izabella Trunzo (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) anchored the defense with nine saves during her own 16 minutes of action.

Gannon Outlasts VMI in High-Scoring Battle
In a thrilling matchup,Ā the Gannon UniversityĀ women's water polo team held off a lateĀ Virginia Military Institute (VMI)Ā rally to secure aĀ 16-14 victory. The game was a back-and-forth contest with both teams trading goals before Gannon pulled away in the second half and survived VMI's final push.

Gannon's offense was well-balanced, with Molly Fehr (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria) leading the charge by scoring four goals and providing an assist. Jade Strickland (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) contributed two goals and three assists, while Emma O'Gorman (Johannesburg, South Africa/St Stithians College) added three goals to the tally. Both Claudia Orte Blanch (Madrid, Spain/IES Profesor Maximo Trueba) and Brigid Carmody (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) each recorded four points in the game. On the defensive end, Sebunia and Trunzo shared time as goalkeepers. Sebunia made two saves and had one steal, whereas Trunzo recorded five saves and two steals.

Ā The Golden Knights return to the pool for the WWPA Bearcat Clash, hosted by McKendree University. Gannon will compete on Saturday, March 15, facing Salem at 2:00 PM and McKendree at 6:00 PM at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex in O'Fallon, Illinois.
