Jade Strickland (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) recorded a pair of hat tricks, but the Gannon women's water polo team saw its season end with two losses in the WWPA Championships on Saturday.

The Golden Knights lost a heartbreaker in a 9-8 loss to Fresno Pacific before dropping a 12-7 outcome to Cal State Monterey Bay in the seventh-place game at the Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center.

Gannon closed the season with a 10-12 record.

Tatum Benson scored with 6 seconds left to give Fresno the one-goal win. Gannon got one final shot but could not convert the tying goal.

Strickland had scored her third goal of the game on a penalty shot with 1:15 left to tie the game at 8-8.Â
Ellie Velasco (Bronx, Calif./Arlington) and
Molly Fehr (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria) each scored a pair of goals for Gannon.

Josie Frisinz and
Selena Martinez (Fullerton, Calif./Buena Park) each collected a pair of assists for GU.

Gannon's
Molly Sebunia (Erie, Pa./McDowell) made eight saves in goal.

Strickland converted her second hat trick of the day, but Gannon settled for eighth place in the tournament. Strickland finished the tournament with 10 goals in three games.

Velasco, Fehr,
Sydney McGarry (Erie, Pa./McDowell), and
Rachel Kreidinger (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria) added one goal apiece. Velasco had two assists as Kreidinger, Martinez, and Sebunia finished with one assist each.
