PARK CITY, Kan. – Gannon redshirt sophomore
Jerry Echevarria (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) and senior
Nick Coreno (Willoughby, Ohio/Lake Catholic) each concluded their seasons as All-Americans on Saturday in the NCAA Division II Championships.
Echevarria placed fifth at 133 pounds, and Coreno finished sixth at 165 pounds as both claimed All-America status by placing among the top eight t Nationals. They were the last two of Gannon's eight national qualifiers still wrestling on Saturday at Hartman Arena.
The duo also helped coach
Tom Boyd's Gannon squad place 18th in the team race among 51 teams in the tournament. Gannon finished with 24.5 points. Central Oklahoma won the team race with 110 points.

Echevarria nails down 5th place:
Echevarria had opened the tournament by going 2-0 on Friday and advancing to the 133-pound semifinals.
His quest for a national title ended early Saturday when he lost a 9-0 major decision to Glenville State's Gavin Quiocho in the semifinals.
After a loss in the consolation semifinals, Echevarria regrouped and won a 13-2 major decision over Lander's Elijah Musk in the fifth-place match.
Echevarria was wrestling in his first season with Gannon after transferring from American International in the offseason. He finished the season with a 29-8 record.

Coreno a first-time All-American:
Coreno completed a spectacular turnaround season, going from not being a regular in Gannon's lineup in 2022-23 to being an All-American in the span of one year.
He secured All-America status by going 2-1 on the opening day of competition on Friday.
Coreno then opened the day on Saturday with a dramatic 6-3 sudden victory over Aaden Valdez of Adams State.
Coreno lost his final two matches of the day, but he finished the day as one of the top six wrestlers in NCAA Division II at 165 pounds.
Gannon's other six wrestlers were eliminated from the tournament on Friday.
Jimmy Ryan (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) (149),
Ethan Richner (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte Area High) (157),
Cole Casilio (Wilcox, Pa./Johnsonburg Area) (184), and
Matt Long (Corry, Pa./Union City) (285) each finished 1-2.
Jose Diaz (Valparaiso, Ind./Wheeler) (125) and
Cole Hivnor (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic) (174) each lost twice.
