ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon women's water polo team returns to the pool with a trio of games this weekend at the VMI Invite in Lexington, Va. The Golden Knights will face host VMI on Friday, February 2 at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, February 3 they play a pair of opponents they played last weekend at the Villanova Invitational. They play Mount St. Mary's at 2:00 p.m. and Villanova at 6:30 p.m.

The Golden Knights debuted under first-year head coach Zarko Sadikovic last weekend at the Villanova Invitational, going 1-3. After dropping matches to Iona (16-9) and Mount St. Mary's (15-10) the opening day they presented Sadikovic with his first victory as the women's coach, a 13-8 triumph over Mercyhurst. The tournament ended with a 19-7 setback to host Villanova.

Jade Strickland (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) paced the Golden Knights the opening weekend with seven goals and three assists for 10 points. A year ago the junior earned ACWPC honorable mention All-American honors and WWPA first team All-Conference recognition as a sophomore. She also earned a spot on the WWPA All-Tournament Team, landing on the second team. She was a member of the WWPA All-Freshman Team in 2022. Strickland was Gannon's leading scorer with 56 goals and 31 assists for 87 points. In addition she was second on the team in steals with 40. She has 93 goals in her first two seasons.

Sydney McGarry (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Ellie Velasco (Bronx, Calif./Arlington) added five goals and two assists apiece, while Josie Frisina (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria) is second in scoring with three goals and five assists for eight points.

Molly Sebunia (Erie, Pa./McDowell) will line up in goal. The junior started all four matches and has an 18.09 GAA with 29 saves and a .367 save percentage.
