ALLIANCE, Ohio – Five Gannon wrestlers won their weight classes on Saturday as the GU men's wrestling team claimed the team title at the season-opening Mount Union Invitational.
 
Jerry Echevarria (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) (133 pounds), Ethan Richner (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte Area High) (157), Nick Coreno (Willoughby, Ohio/Lake Catholic) (165), Patrick Jackson (Harpers Ferry, WV/Spring Mills High) (174), and Dorian Crosby (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) (285 pounds) finished first in their respective weight classes. Four other Gannon wrestlers placed second.
 
They helped Gannon compile 212 points. West Liberty placed second with 172.5.
 
Echevarria, a returning All-American, went 4-0 and defeated West Liberty's Treygen Morin 16-0 in the 133-pound championship match.
 
Richner pinned West Liberty's Jordan Watters in 1:46 I the 157-pound title match to finish 4-0.
 
Coreno, another returning All-American, went 4-0 and edged Teagan Hendricks of Ohio Northern 5-4 in the 165-pound finals.
 
Jackson capped a 4-0 performance by beating West Liberty's Oliver Byerly 4-1 in the 174-pound title bout.
 
Crosby, a transfer from Division I Bucknell, went 4-0 at heavyweight with three technical falls and a 5-2 victory over West Liberty's Parker Bentley in the title match. H outscored his four opponents 61-8.
 
Jordan Escarra (Weston, Fla./Cypress Bay) (125), Brock Christian (Perry, Ohio/Perry) (141), Isaac Piatek (Garner, N.C./Cleveland) (149) and Gaetano Savelli (Kirtland, OH/Kirtland High) (184) each finished second.
