The Gannon women's swimming program opened its home season victorious Friday evening inside Carneval Athletic Pavilion. Gannon earned the home opening victory after defeating RIT 156-138.
The Golden Knights improve to 1-1 in dual meets, while RIT dropped to 1-2 respectively.
Coach Milan Medo's squad won nine events on the night, with two swimmers earning a pair of wins. Team captain
Lily Cunningham (Lavista, Neb./Papillion-La Vista) tallied first-place finishes and PSAC qualifying times in the 50 Freestyle (24.72) and 100 Freestyle (54.29).
Juliana Romero (Bogotá, Columbia/Colegio pureza de Maria) Castro also tallied two wins and earned PSAC qualifying times in the 200 Backstroke (2:09.31) and 100 Backstroke (59.96). Both were named team MVP's for their stellar performances.
Gannon swimmers won a total of nine events.
Roaa Farag (Heliopolis, Egypt/Nermin Ismail) was the winner in the 1000 freestyle, while
Madalyn Myers (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) won the 200 freestyle.
Hannah Jacobs (Johannesburg, South Africa/) touched the wall first in the 100 butterfly, while
Emily Hedges (Peachtree Corners, Ga./St Pius X Catholic) placed first in the 200 butterfly.The foursome of

Gannon is back in action on November 9 when hosting Indiana (Pa.) at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion. The PSAC dual meet is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM.
