Falls by Richner, Hivnor and Long Power Gannon to 44-0 Shutout at Seton Hill

Golden Knights have now won seven straight duals

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Gannon men's wrestling team won its seventh straight match on Wednesday night, in the process posting its first shutout since the 2021-22 season. The Golden Knights handed host Seton Hill a 44-0 defeat, winning six matches via bonus points with three falls.

Gannon is now 7-1 and 5-0 in PSAC duals with matches remaining against Pitt-Johnstown and Mercyhurst. Gannon hosts the Mountain Cats on Friday, February 10 and is at Mercyhurst on February 16. The shutout was the first since a 52-0 win over East Stroudsburg in 2021-22. Seton Hill is now 5-8 and 1-4 in the PSAC.

Jose Diaz (Valparaiso, Ind./Wheeler) got the Golden Knights off and running with a 19-2 technical fall (5:49) at 125 lbs. to improve to 15-4 on the season. Jerry Echevarria (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) (20-5) and Caleb Chaves (Odenton, Md./Arundel) (15-8) followed with decisions at 133 and 141 lbs.

Jimmy Ryan (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) posted Gannon's second technical fall at 149 lbs., prevailing 17-1 (5:28) to improve to 16-4. Ethan Richner (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte Area High) (14-5) followed with the first of Gannon's three falls with a pin at the 6:38 mark in his 157 lb. match.

After Nick Coreno (Willoughby, Ohio/Lake Catholic) boosted his record to 20-5 with a narrow 5-4 decision at 165 lbs., Cole Hivnor (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic) needed just 1:46 to win by fall at 174 lbs., improving to 16-5. Cole Casilio (Wilcox, Pa./Johnsonburg Area) (17-8) won by 12-1 major decision in his 184 lb. match.

Anthony Glessner (Middletown, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) improved to 11-10 thanks to an 11-4 decision at 197 lbs., and Matt Long (Corry, Pa./Union City) put an exclamation point on the win with a pin in just 51 seconds in his heavyweight bout. He is now 18-10.

In addition to this week's dual at Seton Hill Gannon's B Team will compete at Penn State Behrend on Friday, February 2 against the Lions and Case Western Reserve.
