Gannon soccer standout
James Pool (Hastings, England/Claverham) has added another prestigious award to his list of postseason accolades. On Tuesday, the PSAC honored Pool with a Fall Top 10 Award.
The Top 10 Awards, which are selected by the PSAC's sports information directors, recognize student-athletes who distinguish themselves in the classroom and in competition. Candidates for the Top 10 Awards must have achieved a minimum of a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average and must be a starter or key reserve with strong athletic credentials.
Pool, a senior midfielder, tied for the PSAC lead with 17 goals and finished second with 40 points as Gannon advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight and finished with an 18-2-2 record. Pool ranked fifth in goals nationally in NCAA Division II, and he ranked seventh in points.
Pool has a 3.74 cumulative grade-point average as an Accounting/Finance major.
Earlier, Pool was named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America® Second Team, the CSC Academic All-District® Team, and the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-America Second Team.
Pool also made the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-America First Team and the D2CCA Atlantic Region All-Atlantic Region First Team. In addition, he landed spots on the United Soccer Coaches All-Region Second Team and the All-PSAC West First Team.
The conference designates Top 10 Award winners after each of the sports seasons: fall, winter, and spring.
This is the second year in a row that a Gannon men's soccer player has received a Fall Top 10 Award. Last year, Sergio Del Castillo claimed the honor.
