No. 19 Golden Knights Open PSAC Action with Dominating Wins over Millersville and Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Gannon men's wrestling team opened PSAC action on Saturday with a pair of dominating wins while competing in the Shippensburg Duals. Originally scheduled to face Shippensburg on Friday night, poor road conditions forced the postponement of that match until Saturday. Gannon opened with a 39-6 win over Millersville then handed Shippensburg a 42-9 defeat to improve to 5-1 on the season. Gannon came in ranked 19th in the latest The Open Mat Top 25.

The Golden Knights won eight of the ten bouts in both matches. First-year head coach Tom Boyd's wrestlers posted three falls and won on bonus points in five matches against Millersville. They added three pins, a technical fall and a major decision against Shippensburg, along with receiving a pair of wins via forfeit.

Nick Coreno (Willoughby, Ohio/Lake Catholic) won twice by fall at 165 lbs. while improving to 17-5 on the season. Jimmy Ryan (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) picked up a technical fall and a major decision at 149 lbs. and is now 13-4.

Gannon returns to action next weekend, wrestling in front of the home fans for the first time in 2023-24. The Golden Knights host East Stroudsburg on Friday, January 26 at 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, January 27 face Kutztown at 11:00 a.m. Both matches will take place at the Recreation and Wellness Center.
