Nine Golden Knights Medal at 2023 Storm Open

PAINESVILLE, Ohio – One day after splitting a pair of duals at the Storm Quad Meet the Gannon men's wrestling team returned to Lake Erie to compete in the 2023 Storm Open. Head coach Tom Boyd sent 21 wrestlers to the tournament, with nine earning medals.

Eli Reese (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) led the way with a first place showing at heavyweight with four wins. Hunter Robison (Edinboro, Pa./Saegertown) took second at 125 lbs., as did Chase McLaughlin (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown Area) at 133 lbs. In fact three Golden Knights placed at 133 lbs., with Brock Christian (Perry, Ohio/Perry) fifth and Matthew Vindigni (Smithfield, N.C./Cleveland) sixth.

The Butterfield brothers also placed, with Hayden placing second at 157 lbs. and Caleb fifth at 165 lbs. Marques McClorin (Meadville, Pa./Cathedral Prep) finished fourth at 157 lbs., as did Troy Peterson (Erie, Pa./McDowell) at 197 lbs. Finally, Carson Filer (Mercer, Pa./Mercer Area) was sixth at 149 lbs.
