ALLIANCE, Ohio – What a way for the Gannon men's wrestling to open the Tom Boyd era.

The Golden Knights won the season-opening Mount Union Invitational by 29 points and had seven finalists and three individual champions on Saturday.

Returning national qualifier Jose Diaz (Valparaiso, Ind./Wheeler) won at 125 pounds, newcomer Jerry Echevarria (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) claimed a title at 133, and Nick Coreno (Willoughby, Ohio/Lake Catholic) finished first at 165.

Diaz faced a familiar foe in the 125-pound finals as he edged Hunter Robison (Edinboro, Pa./Saegertown) 4-3.

Echevarria went 4-0 and capped his title run with a 6-5 decision over Ferrum's Zach Beckner.

Coreno closed his 5-0 day with a 17-5 major decision over Ohio Northern's Teagan Hendricks in the 165-pound finals.

Gannon, meanwhile, had four wrestlers finish in second place: Robison (125) Ethan Richner (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte Area High) (157), Cole Hivnor (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic) (184), and Anthony Glessner (Middletown, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) (197).
