Five Wrestlers Medal at Findlay Open

FINDLAY, Ohio – The Gannon wrestling team took a total of 27 wrestlers to Saturday's Findlay Open. Five Golden Knights earned medals and 15 wrestlers won at least two marches. Gannon was competing in its third tournament of the season after previously finishing first at the Mount Union Invitational and then competing in Ohio Intercollegiate Open. No team scores were kept on Saturday.

Freshman Jerry Echevarria (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach) took home first place at the Mount Union Invitational and once again reached the finals at the Findlay Open.  Echevarria finished with a 4-1 record while wrestling at 133 lbs. he won once by fall along with three decisions before dropping a 7-0 decision to fourth-ranked Vincent Scollo of West Liberty in the finals.

Cole Casilio (Wilcox, Pa./Johnsonburg Area), ranked eighth by The Open Mat at 174 lbs., finished fourth at that weight. He ended the day with a 3-2 record, winning twice by fall. He lost by injury default in the third-place match.

Ethan Richner (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte Area High) garnered a fifth-place showing at 157 lbs. at the Findlay Open after coming in second at the Mount Union Invitational. Richner finished the day with a 5-1 record, winning three times by fall and once by major decision.

Heavyweight Matt Long (Corry, Pa./Union City) took sixth place on Saturday with a 4-2 record. He had a pair of pins along with a major decision, battling back after losing his opening match by 5-2 decision to No. 5 LaRon Parks of Notre Dame (Ohio).

Jimmy Ryan (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) wrapped up the Gannon medal winners, coming in eighth at 149 lbs. He finished with a 5-1 record, with all of his wins by bonus points (two technical falls, two major decisions and a fall). Ryan is ranked tenth at 149 lbs.
