JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – Gannon redshirt freshman Caleb Chaves (Odenton, Md./Arundel) won a title, and three other Golden Knights placed on Sunday as the Gannon B Team competed in the Jamestown Community College Open.

Chaves went 4-0 in the 149-pound weight class and captured the title with a 7-6 decision over unattached wrestler Joshua Howey.

Earlier in the day, Chaves logged a pin in 34 seconds against Ohio Wesleyan's Zach Smith, won a 7-4 decision over Mercyhurst's Matt Ferraro in the quarterfinals, and earned an 8-0 major decision over St. John Fisher's Luke Lupisella in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Gannon's Christian Scheller (Saxonburg, Pa./Mars) took third at 174 pounds, and Jacob Wright (Arnold, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) (133 pounds) and Evan Reid (Carnation, Wash./Cedarcrest) (149) placed fourth in their respective divisions.

Scheller went 5-1 on the day, and after losing in the quarterfinals, he dominated four consolation matches, winning a technical fall before collecting three consecutive pins. In the third-place match, he pinned Ohio Wesleyan's Othman Taha in 1:38.

Wright went 3-2 in the tournament at 133, and among his wins were a technical fall and a fall.

Reid went 4-2 at 149 pounds. After losing in the quarterfinals, he won three matches in a row to reach the fourth-place match.

The Gannon B Team will return to action Thursday at 7 p.m. at Penn State Behrend.
