Bennink Named to PSAC Spring Top 10

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Gannon University's Connor Bennink (Kennett Square, Pa./Unionville) has received another award for his excellence in the classroom and on the golf course. One day after being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Men's At-Large Division II First Team, Bennink has now been selected to the PSAC Spring Top 10. PSAC sports information director's chose five men's student-athletes and five women's student-athletes to comprise the Spring Top 10.

Bennink's selection gives Gannon four PSAC Top 10 honorees for 2021-22. Lauren Sampson (volleyball) was selected in the fall, while Emma Wright (women's basketball) and Joel Leise (wrestling) were honored in the winter.

The 2022 PSAC Spring Top 10 on the men's side included Bennink, Mike Ferrara (West Chester), Connor Hamilton (Slippery Rock), Samuel Hartman (Seton Hill), and Josh Surowiec (Mercyhurst0. The women's Spring Top 10 was comprised of Divonne Franklin (California (Pa.)), Karolin Kirtchtag (Indiana (Pa.)), Hannah Marsteller (Shippensburg), Kaleigh Pokrivka (East Stroudsburg), Charleigh Rondeau (Slippery Rock).

A junior from Kennett Square, Pa., has a 4.00 GPA as a Finance and Accounting major. He led Gannon to the NCAA Division II National Championships, and was honored as the NCAA Div. II Men's Golf Elite 90 Award recipient prior to the national tournament.

On the golf course, Bennink was named the 2021-22 PSAC Men's Golf Athlete of the Year after leading Gannon to second place in the PSAC Championships and tied for third in the Atlantic/East Regional to qualify for the NCAA Division II National Championships.  He was recently named to the 2022 PING All-Atlantic Region Team for the third time while also being named to the All-PSAC first team, the third time he had been selected an All-PSAC performer.

Bennink averaged a team-best 72.8 in 29 rounds, finishing in the top 10 in 11 of 13 tournaments, including a first-place showing in the Guy & Jeanne Kuhn Memorial. He added three second-place finishes and was third at the PSAC Championships. He fired one of the lowest rounds in Gannon history with a 65 in the West Liberty Invitational, Bennink tied for sixth in the Atlantic/East Regional with rounds of 74-72-73 for a 54-hole total of 219, three-over par. He finished the year with four rounds in the 60's and 24 of 29 rounds with a 74 or better.
