Gannon Builds Lead to 32 Strokes After Day Two of the PSAC Championships

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Gannon women's golf team stretched its lead to 32 strokes after 36 holes in the 2022 PSAC Women's Golf Championships. Nine teams are battling at the Berkleigh Golf Club in Kutztown, Pa., with Gannon seeking its third straight PSAC championship. Cal is the only other team to win three straight PSAC crowns. Gannon and Cal have each won five PSAC titles. The PSAC champion will earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional scheduled for May 2-4 at Shoal Creek Golf Course in Kansas City, Mo.

After combining for a 323 total in day one of the three-day tournament, Gannon knocked seven strokes off that total with a 316 aggregate for a combined score of 639, 63 over par. Mercyhurst moved up from third into second place on Saturday with a 671 total (+95), but the Lakers are still 32 strokes behind the Golden Knights. Cal is third with a total of 672 (+96), one stroke behind Mercyhurst. Millersville, in second place after day one, slipped to fourth with a 695 total (+119).

Cal's Rachel Wilson moved into the lead in the individual competition after shooting 78 for the second straight day. Gannon once again has all five golfers in the top ten. Freshman Ditte Petersen (Dianalund, Denmark/Sorø Akademi Skole) moved into second place with the second-lowest round of the day, a 76 over the par-72 course. The native of Denmark opened with an 82 and sits at 158, two strokes behind Wilson entering the final 18 holes. Mercyhurst's Isabella Walter had the low round of the day, firing a 74, and sits in third place at 159 (+15).

Ana Maestro (Seville, Spain/Albaydar) shot a 78 on Saturday. Combined with an opening-round 82, the sophomore from Spain has a 160 total, just four strokes back of the lead and tied for fourth place. Sarah White (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) held the opening-round lead with a 77 but dropped back to a tie for sixth after shooting 84 on Saturday. The sophomore, last year's PSAC Athlete of the Year and Freshman of the Year, has a 161 total (+17). Teammate Andrea Martinez (Tarragona, Spain/Col·legi Vedruna Sagrat Cor) is also tied for sixth after shooting a 79 today.

Maria Arenas (Bogota, Colombia/), the 2021 PSAC individual champion, rounds out the Gannon contingent. The junior from Colombia is tied for tenth place at 167 (+23) after opening with an 84 and shooting an 83 on Saturday.
