KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The No. 3-ranked Gannon Acrobatics & Tumbling team wrapped up the road portion of its schedule on Saturday afternoon with a convincing win over first-year NCATA program Kutztown University at Keystone Arena. The Knights swept each of the 19 heats and scored their second-highest point total of the season at 272.940. Kutztown finished the meet with a score of 157.650 and fell to 2-3 on the season.
Gannon scored a 9.50 or higher in eight of the first 10 heats during the meet, including a meet-high 9.90 in the synchronized pyramid and a 9.85 in the six-element acro. Gannon also recorded a 9.80 in the compulsory toss, a 9.65 in the compulsory pyramid and a 9.60 in both the inversion and open pyramid heats. Gannon went to the break with a 95.75-86.70 advantage.
However, it was the second half where the Knights added a significant cushion to their lead. In the toss event, Gannon scored a 9.40 or higher in each of the heats and wrapped up the event with a 28.50-to-26.10 advantage. The event was highlighted by a 9.65 in the 450 salto toss for the Knights.
In tumbling, Gannon added over 10 points to its meet advantage with a 54.900-to-44.850 margin of victory. To begin the event in the synchronized passes, the Gannon duo of
Ali Price (New Paris, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) and
Caitlyn Crawford (Reston, Va./South Lakes) teamed up to post a 9.40 in the duo tumbling pass. Gannon also turned in big scoring advantages in the trio (8.200-6.00) and quad (8.350-5.350) passes.
In the second half of the tumbling event, Gannon also turned in impressive performances in the individuals passes. Junior
Michaelah Lanza (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) began the individual passes by hitting a 9.40 in the aerial. Price followed up Lanza's performance with a 9.70 in the six-element pass, while Crawford scored a near-perfect 9.85 (out of 9.90) in the open tumbling pass, setting a new season-high.
In team event, Gannon scored a 93.79 to wrap up the meet.
The Knights will now return home to meet No. 5 Quinnipiac in a top 5 NCATA matchup at the Highmark Events Center. The meet is set for a 5 p.m. start on senior day for the Knights. The meet will take place just 48 prior to the announcement of the 2022 NCATA National Championship bracket.
