EVENT NOTES
  • Gannon will have 20 athletes competing at the 2021 PSAC Championships, with the men sending nine and the women 11.
  • The meet will have a new look for this year due to protocols around the COVID-19 pandemic. All events will be timed finals, with the men competing Wednesday and Thursday, and the women on Friday and Saturday.
  • The Gannon men are following up back-to-back third-place finishes in the team standings the past two seasons, the best finish for the team since a runner-up spot in 2012.
  • The Gannon women placed sixth in the team race a year ago. Their best finish at the conference meet is third in 2013.
  • Silvija Taraska (Wickliffe, Ohio/Lake Catholic), who swam three events at the NCAA Championships last month, has a top-three seed in four events, including the top mark in the 200 freestyle, second in the 100 free, and third in both the 50 and 500 free.
  • Francesca Nemetz (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) holds top-four seeds in both the 200 free and 200 butterfly, while Lilija Taraska (Wickliffe, Ohio/Lake Catholic) (100 and 200 breaststroke) and Cassie Ellsworth (Erie, Pa./Northwest Collegiate) (1650 free) are top five seeds in events as well.
  • The women hold the second-fastest seed time in the 800 freestyle relay, and are top three in the 200 freestyle and 200 and 400 medley relays as well.
  • Andrew Beyer (Warren, Pa./Warren Area) and David Gallion (Arlington, Va./Homeschooled) each earned a top seed on the men's side, Beyer in the 200 backstroke and Gallion in the 100 butterfly. Gallion is also the second seed in the 200 fly, while Beyer is fifth in the 400 individual medley.
  • Stephen McCallum (Cape Town, South Africa/Wynberg Boys') picked up top-four seeds in four freestyle distances, entering third in the 50, 200 and 500, and fourth in the 100.
  • Justin Decheck (Plum, Pa./Plum) is a top-four seed in three events (100 fly, 100 back and 200 IM), while Chris Luus (Pretoria, South Africa/Hoerskool Garsfontein) (100 back, 100 free), Josh Nel (Johannesburg, South Africa/American International) (100 breast) and Will Moses (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) (400 IM) all have at least one top-five event.
  • The Gannon men are seeded second in four of the five relays.
  • The PSAC will see a new team champion on both the men's and women's side for the first time in a long time, as West Chester opted out of the championships. The Golden Rams had won 22 consecutive men's team titles and 14 straight women's titles.
