ERIE, PA - It's nearly February! With the cold weather in full force, winter sports teams continue their push to the postseason. In addition to regular season tests, another team will make its season debut to open the month.
THIS WEEK IN GANNON ATHLETICS:
No. 10 Men's Basketball (17-2, 10-1 PSAC)
Wednesday, 1/28 vs Clarion - 7:30 pm
Saturday, 1/31 @ SRU - 3:00 pm
The No.10 Golden Knights are coming off their biggest win of the season, defeating No. 2 Daemen, 79-61 in front of a packed Highmark Events Center on Wednesday. Gannon has won four straight overall and is 10-1 in conference play. GU will take on Clarion at home on Wednesday, a team they lost to at home in the regular season last year. Then, it's a short trip south to SRU on Saturday, which sits in the middle of the pack in the PSAC West.
No. 3 Men's Wrestling (9-1, 3-0 PSAC)
Saturday, 1/31 - vs Kutztown - 12:00 pm (SENIOR DAY)
Up to number three in the country, Gannon defeated two ranked teams in ESU and WLU last Friday at home. Six wrestlers picked up wins in both matches, as Gannon improved to 9-1 in dual meets. Saturday continues that stretch for the Golden Knights as they'll host conference foe and 19th ranked Kutztown on Saturday. Eight seniors will be honored prior to the start of the meet.
Men's & Women's Swimming
Saturday, 1/31 - @ Penn State Behrend - 1:00 pm
The men's and women's swimming programs split a dual meet with Edinboro last Friday, as the Golden Knight men earned a convincing victory while the women came up just short in a tightly contested matchup. Nikita Poparcea won the 50 Free (21.29) and later added a victory in the 200 Back (1:57.49), while
Juliana Romero (Bogotá, Columbia/Colegio pureza de Maria) Castro claimed the 200 IM (2:14.78) and the 200 Back (2:10.69) for the women.
Saturday is the final dual event for the Golden Knights until PSAC Championships, as they'll travel to Penn State Behrend for a 1:00 pm start.
No. 16 Women's Wrestling (7-9)
Saturday, 1/31 - vs Lock Haven - 2:00 pm
The Golden Knights are coming off a pair of defeats at the Journeymen Women's Duals after falling to Sacred Heart and Elmira on Saturday. Gannon will return home on Saturday to face Lock Haven at 2:00 pm. It will be the second match of the day in the building, with men's wrestling preceding

Saturday, 1/31 @ SRU - 1:00 pm
Cleve Wright's squad got back on track on Saturday after defeating UPJ on the road Saturday. Gannon improved to 10-1 in conference play and 18-2 overall. The Golden Knights also remained perfect on the road at 8-0.
GU will return home on Wednesday to host Clarion at 5:30 pm as part of a doubleheader. They'll then be back on the road for a test against Slippery Rock on Saturday.
