EVENT NOTES
  • Originally set up as the annual dual between the Golden Knights and Lakers, Wednesday switched to a multi-mat event with no team score in order to accommodate more matchups and be flexible with opponents.
  • Gannon put up a number of impressive efforts on the night, but two stood out as Golden Knights knocked off ranked foes. In the only matchup of the night to feature two ranked wrestlers, No. 12 Austin Hertel (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) turned in two takedowns in the third period to grab a 5-3 win over No. 8 Alexis Soriano at 141 pounds.
  • Then, in one of the final bouts of the night, Cameron Page (Falconer, N.Y./Falconer Central) put on the pressure from the start at 184 against No. 12 Trever Begin with two takedowns in the first period. A strong ride in the second gave him a cushion, and a takedown in the third from Begin wasn't enough to close the gap as Page earned a 6-3 win.
  • Gannon went 11-7 over 18 bouts on the night, winning seven by fall and adding a major decision. Using dual scoring, the Golden Knights outscored the Lakers 55-34.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon will head into the postseason with the NCAA Super Region 1 Championships at the end of the month at a site to be determined.
