  • The Short Story: The one-two offensive punch of Nicole Wiemken (Napoleon, Ohio /Napoleon) and Campbell Ruh (Walnut, Calif./Lutheran High School of Orange County) helped lift Gannon to a season-high 17 goals, including 12 in the second half, during a 17-11 triumph over La Salle on Sunday morning in Erie.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon opened the scoring at the 7:19 mark of the first quarter on a goal from Julia Kredinger (Erie, Pa./Villia Maria), who took a feed from Lauren Rinderle (Erie, Pa./Fairview) to hand the Lady Knights a 1-0 lead. La Salle countered back with the next two goals, but Campbell Ruh (Walnut, Calif./Lutheran High School of Orange County) evened the score at two with her first tally of the contest. The Explorers made good on a man-up opportunity, scoring at the 1:23 mark of the first quarter to knot the game at three.
  • Keyed by a sprint-off win to start the second quarter, Gannon notched two goals from Wiemken and Rinderle for a 5-3 advantage. Libby Tirak (Erie, Pa./Villia Maria) pushed the Lady Knights ahead 6-4 with an even strength tally from Ruh with less than one minute remaining in the first half.
  • Gannon scored three of the first four goals to open the third quarter, with Kredinger (6:52), Wiemken (6:11) and Ruh (5:21) all found the net. The Lady Knights cahsed in three more times in the frame, with Wiemken (4:12, 2:03) and Ruh (2:53) continuing to apply the offensive pressure on the Explorers.
  • Leading 11-8, the Lady Knights outscored the Explorers 6-3 in the final frame to preserve the lead and secure their first victory of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Bucknell raced out to a 4-0 lead before Ruh got Gannon on the board at 5:03. Kelly Fehr (Erie, Pa./Villia Maria) fired home a five-meter goal to cut the Maroon and Gold deficit to 5-2, but the Bison roared back with the seven goals to pull ahead comfortably.
  • Tirak and Maggie Forntin found the goal for Gannon in the second and third quarters, respectively. Fehr dropped in the last two goals of the game, one an even strength tally off a pass from Kredinger and one a five-meter goal.

GAME NOTES
  • With La Salle fresh off its first win over a DI school in program history yesterday, Gannon stifled the Explorers in the second half to capture a 3-0 lead in the all-time series.
  • Head coach Shane Unger, the fourth coach in program history, notched the first win of his Gannon career.
  • The Lady Knights showed great balance against the Explores as six different players registered multiple points in the win.
  • Gannon outscored La Salle 12-7 in the second half of the opening game.
  • Sydney Fountain (Okemos, Mich./Okemos) passed out five assists on the day.
