KEY SEQUENCE
  • Starting with a fall with just seconds left in the first period at 125 pounds, Gannon ripped off three pins in the first four bouts to jump out to a 21-0 lead against the Division I Sharks, and the Golden Knights wouldn't allow a point in the final six matches either, rolling to a win in their first dual of the season.

MATCH NOTES
  • LIU is in its first season as a Division I wrestling program after the university combined the athletic programs at its two campuses. Division II LIU Post sponsored wrestling, while Division I LIU Brooklyn did not.
  • In all, seven weights ended in bonus-point victories for the Golden Knights, including four falls, a technical fall and two major decisions. Of the three that went to decision, two were by the comfortable margin of seven points.
  • Gehrig Hutchison (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) saved a fair bit of the excitement on the day for the final bout, winning 3-2 in a tiebreaker to cap the match and allow Gannon to keep the shutout.
  • It was the first time Gannon won all 10 bouts in a dual since blanking American International 51-0 on Jan. 17, 2015.
  • The matchup was the first against a Division I squad since the Knights topped Duquesne 32-12 during the 2009-10 season. Gannon has duals scheduled against Edinboro and Buffalo on Jan. 5 of this season.

UP NEXT
  • The Golden Knights head to the Lake Erie Storm Open on Nov. 24.
