HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
  • IUP was the designated home team for the doubleheader as the games were originally scheduled to be played in Indiana, Pa. The series was shifted to Erie, Pa., due to field conditions at IUP.
  • The Crimson Hawks got the scoring started in the second inning. Nate Dickey singled and Anthony Rigous touched them all with a two-run shot to center field. IUP led, 2-0.
  • Gannon got a run back in the top of the third inning. Gregory Nicolia (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) singled to begin the inning and Jared Beach (McDonald, Pa./Canon-McMillan) followed with an RBI-double to right field. Gannon trailed, 2-1.
  • The Golden Knights got back to even in the fourth inning. Ian Steighner (Chicora, Pa./Butler) ripped a one-out double to center field with Dominic Mori (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) coming to the plate. On a 1-0 offering, Steighner moved to third on a wild pitch and throwing error by the IUP catcher allowed Steighner to keep on coming home. Gannon tied the game at two.
  • Indiana (Pa.) manufactured a run a run in the bottom of the fifth to pull ahead, 3-2.
  • Gannon answered once again, in the top of the sixth. Kyle Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville) reached base and stole second for Elijah Quiceno (Berryville, Va./Stonebridge) to swat him in with an RBI-single to center. The game was tied at three.
  • Next batter up, Steighner, crushed a ball over the fence in left-center field. Gannon took claim to its first lead of the day at 5-3.
  • Gannon tacked on an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Nate Cardy (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) doubled home Teagan Piechnick (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) who pinch ran for Beach.
  • Gannon closed out the game in the bottom of the seventh, but not before some theatrics. Indiana (Pa.) loaded the bases with one out, down three runs.
  • Dan Sepic made the second out as he popped up an 0-1 offering by Cody Callaway (Elyria, Ohio/Midview).
  • Matt Swartz came to the plate as the Crimson Hawks last hope. Swartz drove a 2-0 pitch to the wall in left field where Kyle Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville) hauled in a potential walk-off grand slam.
