HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Gannon set the tone in game one, scoring five times in the opening frame. Mike Colosi (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) and Charles Benack (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) got aboard before Nate Cardy (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) hit a two-run single to center.
  • Ian Steighner (Chicora, Pa./Butler) drove in the Golden Knights' third run of the inning with a single to right field that plated Cardy.
  • Matt Oruch (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) delivered the final blow of the inning as he ripped a single to left, scoring Kyle Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville) and Ian Steighner (Chicora, Pa./Butler). Gannon led 5-0.
  • Mercyhurst tallied its own five-run inning in the third, capped off by a three-run shot by Drew Delsignore.
  • The Lakers took their first lead of the game in the sixth inning. Jimmy Standohar doubled home Kenneth Robinson for a 6-5 lead and O'Donnell extended the Laker lead to 7-5 with a sacrifice fly.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Gannon had runners at second and third in the form of Steighner and Elijah Quiceno (Berryville, Va./Stonebridge). Oruch came to the plate and ripped a two-RBI single to right field. The game was tied at seven.
  • Mercyhurst couldn't push a run across in the top of the seventh, going down quietly.
  • Gannon came to the plate in the bottom of the inning with a chance to win it. Benack worked an nine-pitch at-bat that ended with a single to right field.
  • Cardy was next up and launched a ball to dead center, clearing the wall and sending the Golden Knights home happy, 9-7.

  • Oruch also delivered a four-RBI game, going 2-for-3 in the game.
