Baseball Hosts Lake Erie Tuesday in Nine-Inning Game

The Gannon baseball team is set to host Lake Erie College on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference nine-inning game. The first pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at McConnell Family Stadium. Redshirt-junior Nate Cardy (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) is hitting .396 and leads Gannon with 44 hits, three triples, a .613 slugging percentage and a .485 on-base percentage. Senior Kyle Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville) has a team-high four home runs, while senior Matt Oruch (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) has nine stolen bases on the year. Junior pitcher Jarod Morrison (Hamilton, Ohio/Hamilton) leads the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) in innings pitched (50.1). He owns a 4.65 ERA and a 4-4 record on the mound. Lake Erie is led by freshman Trace Peterson with a .316 batting average and a team-high eight home runs. Senior Wes Birchmeier posts team-highs in hits (38), doubles (9), triples (3) and RBI (23).

No. 5 Gannon kicks off the 2018 Acrobatics & Tumbling National Championships Thursday night when it welcomes No. 4 Oregon to the Hammermill Center. The event is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Gannon is the host site of the championships and will welcome six other contenders, in addition to Oregon, to the Hammermill Center April 26-28. The Lady Knights earned the highest championship seeding in program history and registered a perfect 3-0 record at home this season. It marks the fourth time in the last five seasons that the Lady Knights have clinched a national tournament berth. Baylor earned the top seed in the NCATA National Championships, while Azusa Pacific, Quinnipiac, Oregon and Gannon rounded out the top five. Hawaii Pacific (No. 7) and Converse (No. 8) completed the eight-team field.
 
 
Softball Hosts Edinboro Friday Afternoon on Senior Day

The Gannon softball team welcomes local foe Edinboro to McConnell Family Stadium Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the 2018 home regular-season finale. Friday will also be Senior Day for Jackie Martinez (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep), Allie Salerno (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg), and Katie Eckelberry (Uniontown, Ohio/North Canton Hoover). Rookie Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) is batting .380 and leads the Lady Knights with eight home runs, 31 RBI, a .775 slugging percentage and a .506 on-base percentage. Martinez has a team-high 35 hits, 12 doubles and two triples. The Gannon pitching unit owns a conference-best 1.90 ERA, anchored by sophomore Madi Beining (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) (1.92) with 10 wins and 38 strikeouts. Freshman pitcher Kennedy DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) has a team-high 62 strikeouts in 93.2 innings. Junior Danna Heh has a team-high 21 hits for Edinboro, while sophomore Victoria Allocca has 14 RBI and four doubles.
 

Lacrosse Hosts Bloomsburg Saturday on Senior Day

The Gannon lacrosse team closes out the 2018 season Saturday afternoon with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game against Bloomsburg. Game time is set for 12 o'clock noon. Saturday will also be Senior Day for Leilani King (St. Albans, Vt./Bellows Free Academy), Jessica Lambert (Livonia, N.Y./Livonia) and Hannah Sinsebox (Rochester, N.Y./Rush-Henrietta). King leads Gannon this season with 51 points on 33 goals and 18 assists. Sophomore Erin Rotondo (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) leads the Lady Knights with 38 goals on 99 shots. Rookie goalkeeper Erin Renwick (Islip, N.Y./Islip) has registered 132 saves for a .424 save percentage. Redshirt-freshman Grace Kelleher leads Bloomsburg with 46 total points on 25 goals and 21 assists, while senior Tracy Rusen has a team-high 34 goals. Sophomore Angela DePasquale has made 154 saves in goal.

The Gannon baseball team hosts cross-town rival No. 9 Mercyhurst Sunday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) doubleheader at McConnell Family Stadium. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1 p.m. with a pregame tailgate hosted by the Golden Knight Booster Club starting at 12 o'clock noon. Senior Daniel Elliott (.393) leads the Lakers this spring with 44 hits, 11 doubles, 10 home runs and 45 RBI. Junior Tyler Garbee is 5-0 on the mound with a 2.19 ERA, while junior Chris Vallimont has a conference-high 90 strikeouts.
