HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • California (Pa.) jumped in front early with one run during its first at-bat and three more during the second inning.
  • Gannon got on the board during the top of the fourth inning. Senior Kyle Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville) led off with a single to right field. After advancing to second on a failed pick-off attempt and third on a wild pitch, Cox scored on a two-out RBI single by junior Dominic Mori (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area).
  • California (Pa.) answered with a run during its half of the fourth inning, but Gannon countered with another run in the top of the fifth inning.
  • Senior Mike Colosi (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) drew a walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on senior Charles Benack (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson)'s single through the right side.
  • California added three insurance runs during the bottom half of the inning and they proved to be important.
  • Gannon plated two runs in the sixth inning, cutting the deficit to 8-4. Mori had an RBI single and senior Matt Oruch (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) followed with an RBI double. The Golden Knights brought the tying run to the plate with the bases loaded and one out, but a strikeout and ground-out ended the threat.
  • Sophomore Elijah Quiceno (Berryville, Va./Stonebridge)'s second home run of the season during the top of the seventh inning cut the deficit to 8-5, but the Golden Knights were unable to score again before dropping a three-run decision.
