Lady Knights Get Comeback Win Over Lindenwood on Senior Night, 17-11

  • The Short Story: The Gannon women's water polo earned a "Senior Night" comeback win over Lindenwood in exhibition action Friday night at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion. Sophomore Campbell Ruh (Walnut, Calif./Lutheran High School of Orange County) scored a career-high six goals in the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lindenwood jumped out to a 4-2 lead after one period of action. Seniors Kristi Howe (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way Central) and Alison Cooney (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) helped put Gannon on the board with one goal apiece.
  • The Lions continued to control their steady pace in the second frame and took a 7-5 lead at the intermission.
  • Gannon came back from the break hot, erupting for a six-goal third period. The Lady Knights led 11-9 after three periods of action.
  • The Lady Knights put together another six-goal period in the fourth, led by a pair of goals from Liz Barr (Honolulu, Hawaii/'Iolani School).
  • Gannon held Lindenwood to just four second half goals to get the come-from-behind win.

GAME NOTES
  • Seniors Barr, Cooney, Howe, Samantha McGregor (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) Lizzie Rodriguez (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy), Grace Villano (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) and Francesca Williamson (Chicago, Ill./Mother McAuley) and were honored prior to the start of the game.
  • Ruh's six goals was a career-high.
  • Williamson scored three goals and passed out four assists.
  • Cooney also recorded three goals in the win, while Howe and Barr had two apiece.
  • Rodriguez snagged a team-high three steals.
  • Isabelle Vieira (Erie, Pa./Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy) came up with a career-high 14 saves in the cage.

  • The Lady Knights will face Lindenwood Saturday morning in another exhibition contest. The game will be played at Penn State Behrend at 11:30 a.m.
