  • The Short Story: The Gannon Lady Knights used a 75-59 victory on Saturday to sweep the season series against the Mercyhurst Lakers in the Porreco Pride of Erie Games. Maggie Mitchell (Newark, Ohio/Newark) led the Lady Knights with 25 points and eight rebounds. Gannon also clinched a postseason berth with the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Maggie Mitchell (Newark, Ohio/Newark) opened the game with a triple to give Gannon the early advantage three-point advantage.
  • Mercyhurst tied it before M. Mitchell and Nicole LaCava (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) made three consecutive buckets to go up, 9-3.
  • Lauren Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) closed out a 17-12 quarter, in favor of Gannon, with a bucket as time expired.
  • The Lady Knights' lead hit eight, 20-12, as Julia Braungart (Southampton, N.J./Camden Catholic) connected on a three-pointer with 8:50 remaining in the second quarter.
  • Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) gave Gannon a double-digit lead, 29-17, as she made a triple at the 4:07 mark.
  • The Lady Knights went to halftime with a 31-20 advantage. M. Mitchell led Gannon with 12 points.
  • Gannon began the second half on an 11-3 run, spurred by back-to-back buckets from L. Tewes. Gannon led, 42-23.
  • The Lady Knights continued to hit on all cylinders as Gannon outscored Mercyhurst, 23-12, in the third quarter to take a 54-32 lead to the final period.
  • L. Tewes made the lead 23 points, 63-40, the largest of the afternoon as she hit a trey with 6:32 remaining.
  • Mercyhurst followed with a 16-4 run to cut the deficit to 11, 67-56 with 3:20 remaining.
  • Gannon managed to hold off the Lakers in the final minutes, winning 75-59.
     
GAME NOTES
  • Gannon's shot 55.1 percent from the field, making 27 of 49 shots.
  • M. Mitchell led the Lady Knights with 25 points on 8-of-14 shooting. She also collected eight assists.
  • LaCava also touched double-digits in the scoring column with 15 points on six-of-eight shooting.
  • Maria Lapertosa had a team-high 16 points and six assists for Mercyhurst.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon clinched a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) tournament berth with Saturday's victory over the Lakers.
  • The Lady Knights improved to 14-2 when leading at halftime and 13-1 when scoring at least 60 points in the game.
  • Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) recorded a career-high seven assists in the game.
  • Ruta Vetra (Jurmala, Latvia/Our Lady of Mercy Academy (N.J.)) tied a career-high with seven rebounds for the Lady Knights.
