  • The Short Story: The Gannon Lady Knights played with the No. 13-Ranked Edinboro until a big third quarter by the Fighting Scots propelled them to a 63-42 victory on Saturday, Feb. 10. Julia Braungart (Southampton, N.J./Camden Catholic) led the Lady Knights with 13 points and a pair of rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lauren Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) opened up the game with a three-pointer for the Lady Knights.
  • Gannon and Edinboro traded baskets early on, Maggie Mitchell (Newark, Ohio/Newark) hitting a jumper at the 6:05 mark to give a Gannon a 10-9 edge.
  • Edinboro followed with an 8-3 run to take a 17-13 lead to the first intermission.
  • L. Tewes knocked down a jumper for the first basket of the second quarter, drawing the Lady Knights to within, 17-15.
  • M. Mitchell kept Gannon within two, 21-19, after she made good on a jumper at the 5:13 mark.
  • Edinboro scored the final two buckets of the half to edge out to a 31-24 lead at the break.
  • The Fighting Scots outscored the Lady Knights, 18-7, in the third quarter, pushing out to a 49-31 lead.
  • Gannon wasn't going down without a fight, though. Nicole LaCava (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) opened the fourth with a bucket that kickstarted a 7-3 run for the Lady Knights.
  • L. Tewes capped off the run with a triple try to pull Gannon within 52-38.
  • Gannon couldn't complete the comeback, however, falling 63-42.
     
GAME NOTES
  • Gannon's shot 16-of-50 from the field (.320) while Edinboro went 23-of-59 from the court (.390).
  • Ruta Vetra (Jurmala, Latvia/Our Lady of Mercy Academy (N.J.)) was one rebound shy of a season-high, pulling down six boards in just 11 minutes on the floor.
  • Julia Braungart (Southampton, N.J./Camden Catholic) (13 pts) and Maggie Mitchell (Newark, Ohio/Newark) (11 pts) were both recorded double-figures for the Lady Knights.
  • Ciara Rosten led Edinboro with 30 points and 13 rebounds.
     
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Edinboro is ranked No. 13 in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II rankings.
  • Braungart recorded her seventh double-digit game of the year. She was the only Lady Knight to reach the free throw line in the game, going five-of-six.
  • L. Tewes tied a career-high with two triples made in the game.
