  • The Short Story: The Gannon Lady Knights couldn't overcome a strong second half from the No. 12-ranked Indiana (Pa.) Crimson Hawks as Gannon fell 71-38 on Monday night at the Hammermill Center. Julia Braungart (Southampton, N.J./Camden Catholic) led the Lady Knights with 12 points to go along with three rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon and Indiana (Pa.) opened up the game trading hoops as IUP held an 11-10 advantage after five minutes of play.
  • Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) tallied the Lady Knights' lone hoop in the final five minutes of the first period as the Crimson Hawks held a 17-12 lead after the first period.
  • Maggie Mitchell (Newark, Ohio/Newark) opened the second quarter with a jumper that pulled the Lady Knights back to within 17-14.
  • Indiana (Pa.) opened the game up, 29-18, after Megan Smith knocked down a three-pointer at the 2:33 mark of the quarter.
  • Gannon closed out the half on a 7-2 run, capped off by a pair of Rourke free throws. Rourke, Julia Braungart (Southampton, N.J./Camden Catholic) and M. Mitchell each had seven points at the break. Gannon trailing by just six, 31-25.
  • M. Mitchell canned a three to begin the third quarter as Gannon pulled back to within a bucket, 31-28.
  • The Lady Knights couldn't buy a hoop for the next six minutes, as IUP outscored GU, 12-0, in that span.
  • Indiana (Pa.) went to the fourth quarter with a 49-31 lead.
  • The Crimson Hawks kept the pressure on the Lady Knights, outscoring Gannon 22-7 in the fourth quarter, winning, 71-38.
     
GAME NOTES
  • Gannon's shot 12-of-51 from the field (.235) while Indiana (Pa.) went 27-of-64 from the court (.422).
  • Braungart led the Lady Knights in scoring for the second consecutive game, tallying 12 points, hitting two-of-five triples. She also had a team-high two assists.
  • M. Mitchell also reached double-digits in the scoring column, notching 10 points and knocking down two three-pointers.
  • Megan Smith led the Crimson Hawks with 31 points and six rebounds.
     
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Indiana (Pa.) is ranked No. 12 in the latest Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division II rankings.
  • Braungart recorded her eighth double-digit game of the year.
  • Rourke tied a career-high with four blocks in the game.

  • The winner of each Gannon-Mercyhurst women's basketball game receives the Porreco Pride of Erie trophy and holds onto the honor until defending it during the next match-up. Also presented after the game will be a "Game Changer Award" given to the student-athlete who had the most impact on the outcome of the game.
  • Gannon took the first Porreco Pride of Erie Game on Jan. 17, 85-57, at the Hammermill Center. Maggie Mitchell (Newark, Ohio/Newark) took home the Game Changer Award with 28 points and nine assists.
