  • The Short Story: The Gannon Lady Knights downed the Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats, 64-46, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)-play on Saturday afternoon. The win marked the fifth in-a-row for the Lady Knights and pushed them to a season-high four games over .500.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon sprinted out to an 8-0 advantage on buckets by Julia Braungart (Southampton, N.J./Camden Catholic), Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland), Maggie Mitchell (Newark, Ohio/Newark) and Nicole LaCava (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory).
  • Pitt-Johnstown followed with a mini 6-0 run of their own, pulling within two at the 3:08 mark of the first quarter.
  • M. Mitchell closed out the quarter with a long-range shot that found the bottom of the net. Gannon lead, 11-6.
  • The lead hit double-digits, 20-10, after Ruta Vetra (Jurmala, Latvia/Our Lady of Mercy Academy (N.J.)) connected on a free throw attempt at the 4:50 mark of the second quarter.
  • Elise Torrence (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) made the final bucket of the half after grabbing an offensive rebound and putting it back up with five seconds remaining in the half. Gannon held a 25-20 advantage after two periods.
  • The Lady Knights kept pushing the lead in the second half. Gannon began the second half like the first, with an 8-0 run. Lauren Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) capped off the run with a layup at the 7:25 mark.
  • The two teams kept a five-point range through the rest of the quarter, Gannon holding a 43-31 advantage to the fourth quarter.
  • Emma Oas (Girard, Pa./Girard) connected on a tree-pointer with 6:04 remaining in the fourth quarter to push the Gannon lead to 51-31, the largest lead of the afternoon for the Lady Knights.
  • Pitt-Johnstown closed the gap to 14, 60-46, in the final minutes but couldn't get any closer. Gannon hung on for a 64-46 victory.
     
GAME NOTES
  • M. Mitchell led the Lady Knights with a game-high 24 points on 8-of-15 shooting.
  • Gannon shot over 40 percent from the field for the fourth game in-a-row, making 19 of 43 shots (44.2 percent) against the Mountain Cats.
  • Elise Torrence (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) recorded a career-high six points, going three-for-three from the field.
  • The Lady Knights out-rebounded Pitt-Johnstown, 38-30.
  • Gannon led from start to finish in the game.

  • Gannon improved to 12-2 when leading at halftime and 11-1 when scoring at least 60 points in the game.
  • The Lady Knights extended their conference-leading season free throw percentage to 79.5 percent.
