  • The Short Story: The Gannon Lady Knights fell to the No. 14-ranked Edinboro Fighting Scots, 87-53, on Wednesday night at the Hammermill Center. Sydney Mitchell (Halethorpe, Md./Seton Keough) led the Lady Knights with a career-high 12 points and eight rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon and Edinboro traded baskets early on. Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) got the scoring started for the Lady Knights with a triple at the 7:47 mark of the first quarter.
  • The Fighting Scot lead remained one, 8-7, after Nicole LaCava (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) connected on a layup at the 5:46 mark.
  • Edinboro finished the quarter on a 16-6 run to claim a 22-13 advantage after the first 10 minutes of play.
  • Lauren Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) made the Lady Knights' first bucket of the second quarter with a layup in the paint.
  • Edinboro continued to run as the Fighting Scots outscored the Lady Knights 32-9 in the quarter and took a 54-22 lead to the locker room.
  • Down 68-27, Gannon reeled off a 7-0 run midway through the third quarter. The run was capped off by a bucket from Maggie Mitchell (Newark, Ohio/Newark).
  • The Lady Knights went to the fourth quarter down, 74-37.
  • With the win out of reach, the Lady Knights didn't quit in the final period. Gannon outscored the Fighting Scots 16-13 in the final 10 minutes. Sydney Mitchell (Halethorpe, Md./Seton Keough) paced the Lady Knights with 10 points in the quarter, including two three-pointers.
     
GAME NOTES
  • Gannon made 20-of-65 shots (30.8 percent), while Edinboro hit on 33-of-67 field goals (49.3 percent).
  • S. Mitchell produced 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting and eight rebounds.
  • Rourke (11 points) and M. Mitchell (10 points) also tallied double-figures in scoring for the Lady Knights.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • S. Mitchell recorded season-highs in points (12), rebounds (8), field-goals made (5) and three-pointers made (2).
  • Gannon committed its second-fewest turnovers of the season with just 10 in the game. Edinboro came into the game forcing its opponents to an average of 22.2 turnovers per game.
  • The Lady Knights are 0-7 when failing to reach 60 points this season but 7-1 when hitting the 60-point plateau.
  • Edinboro is averaging 14.4 offensive rebounds per game this season but the Lady Knights held the Fighting Scots to just nine on Wednesday night.
