  • The Short Story: The Gannon baseball team dropped a 5-1 decision at Slippery Rock Sunday afternoon during the opener of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) doubleheader. The contest will be resumed at the end of the season if needed for postseason implications.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Slippery Rock is tabbed No. 7 in the latest NCAA Division II Atlantic regional rankings.
  • The opener was delayed 50 minutes during the third inning due to lightning.
  • Cricks started his 27th career game, moving into a tie with Dale Dollard (2002-05) for eighth place all-time at Gannon since 2000.
  • Nicolia extended his team-best hit streak to eight games with a lead-off single during the top of the sixth inning.
  • Cricks jumped past Heath Major (2000-03) and into eighth place all-time at Gannon since 2000 with 154 career innings pitched.

  • Gannon's loss in the opener combined with Seton Hill's victory at Clarion officially eliminated the Golden Knights from postseason contention.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO
  • Gannon wasted little time shaking off the first-game offensive performance with three runs during its first at-bat. Nicolia led off with a double down the left field line, moved to third on a fly-out and scored on a wild pitch.
  • Redshirt sophomore Nate Cardy (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) doubled Gannon's lead when he scored on an RBI single to center field by junior Kyle Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville). The third run scored on a sacrifice fly by freshman Elijah Quiceno (Berryville, Va./Stonebridge).
  • Slippery Rock got one of the runs back during the bottom of the second inning.
  • With one out in the bottom of the third inning, rain forced the umpires to suspend the game due to field conditions.

GAME NOTES - GAME TWO

  • The contest will only be resumed at the end of the regular season if the outcome has postseason implications.
