GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon scored first with a pair of two-out runs during its initial at-bat. With runners on the corners, senior Andrew Wagner (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit) scored from third after a failed pick-off attempt at first base. Redshirt freshman Jared Beach (McDonald, Pa./Canon-McMillan) then scored from first base on a triple into the left center gap by freshman Elijah Quiceno (Berryville, Va./Stonebridge).
  • The Golden Knights doubled their advantage during the bottom of the third inning. After two outs, Beach singled up the middle and Quiceno walked. Junior Mike Colosi (Niagara Falls, N.Y./Niagara Falls) followed with a two-run double to right center.
  • Gannon blew the game open with a six-run fourth inning. All six runs were unearned as the lead ballooned to 10-0. Twelve Golden Knights came to the plate during the outburst.
  • Wagner plated the first run with an infield single. After a dropped fly ball in shallow left field by the shortstop brought home another run, Quiceno doubled down the right field line for two more runs. Colosi and junior Gregory Nicolia (Grand Island, N.Y./Grand Island) added RBI singles before the inning came to an end.
  • Lake Erie dented the scoreboard for the first time during the top of the fifth inning, but Gannon responded with four runs of its own during its turn in the fifth. Three of the four runs were unearned.
  • Quiceno was granted a second life after a dropped foul ball and proceeded to rip a two-run double to right center for a 12-1 lead. The next two runs scored on an RBI ground-out by Colosi and sacrifice fly by Nicolia.
  • Lake Erie tried to rally with a single run in the sixth and four-run blitz in the seventh, cutting the deficit to 14-6.
  • Gannon got one run back during its half of the seventh inning. Beach drew a lead-off walk, advanced to third base on a pair of wild pitches and scored on freshman Austin O'Shei (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg)'s two-out, pinch-hit single up the middle.
  • The scoring came to an end during the eighth inning with three more Gannon runs. Senior Nick Restuccia (Ormond Beach, Fla./Father Lopez Catholic) and junior Kyle Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville) opened the frame with walks, before Wagner's double down the right field line drove home Restuccia for a 16-6 advantage. Redshirt senior Anthony Grimone (Emporium, Pa./Cameron County) followed with a two-run double into the left center gap that wrapped up the scoring and an 18-6 Gannon victory.
